Three of the division heads of the Ministry of Human Settlements and Development of the BARMM trained on various public housing functions during the Public Housing National Training Workshop and Shelter Training of Trainors hosted by the Public Housing and Settlements Service (PHSS) of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) at the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel, Quezon City, on June 13-18, 2022.

Co-conducted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the activity covered topics on Local Shelter Plan Formulation, Processes on Presidential Land Proclamation, and Role of the Public Housing in Disaster Response, Rehabilitation and Recovery.

“The technical men of the ministry need to be capacitated on Local Shelter Planning (LSP) in order to train and assist the LGUs in the formulation of their LSP,” Janice-zah M. Macapantar, Chief of Environment and Land Use Division (ELUD), said.

“LSP is important in order for us to have data on housing backlogs and housing need especially in the BARMM. Through this LSP, LGUs will be able to identify the location that is suitable for shelter and address housing problems in their respective jurisdiction,” she added.

Chief Macapantar’s co-participants were Nomaire M. Madid, Director for Operations and Management, and Abdulhamid C. Alawi, Jr., Director for Technical and Regulatory Services.

The MHSD was invited to the training after prior meetings conducted between Dir. Madid, DHSUD and IOM.
