Technical staff from the Environment and Land Use Division (ELUD) of the Ministry of Human Settlements and Development, the Housing Arm of the BARMM, trained the Local Government Units (LGU) of Maguindanao on the 1st Module for the Formulation and Updating of their Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUP) on August 1-4, 2022 at the Grand Summit Hotel, General Santos City.

Participants were divided into two teams, one focused on Writeshop and another on Mapping, where, by the end of the training, the Writeshop Team drafted their respective Vision statement, as well filled out data tables required in the sectoral studies section of their CLUP, while the mapping team worked on base and hazard maps.

Also included in the training were lectures and workshops on sectoral studies, mainstreaming framework of the Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) and maps preparation through the Geographic Information System (GIS) application.

To give further insight on the topics, Engr. Al Kashmir Y. Ko, Chief of Local Planning and Coordinating Division from the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority, shared his lecture on the BARMM Vision, also known as the BARMM 12 point priority Agenda and Spatial Planning Strategies, while Mohaliden M. Mohammad, EnP, Planning officer from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform, discussed the Agriculture and Fisheries Data, which included subjects on Planning from the Book of Professor Ernesto Serote, as well as Rationalizing Local Planning and Land, Property and Patrimony, and Engr. Mohammad Ali S. Mauna, Senior Environment Specialist from the Ministry of Public Works (MPW), presented the MPW Roads and Bridges Data.

44 participants attended the four-day activity, comprised of Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators (MPDC), Planning Officers, and Mapping Technicians coming from the LGUs of Parang, Northern Kabuntalan, Upi, Datu Blah Sinsuat, Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, Pagalungan, Datu Piang, Datu Unsay, Datu Paglas, Datu Montawal and Sultan Mastura.

Formally opening the training was message from Abdurashid D. Bin Abdurashid, Housing and Homesite Regulation Officer (HHRO) IV from the Regional Office, where he shared how impressed he was by the LGU’s progress on their respective CLUPs, before reminding the audience that the challenge is in process to follow.

The activity formally closed with message from Mursidier A. Sajili, HHRO IV from the Basilan Office, where he expressed his gratitude to the participating ministries and assured the MHSD’s commitment and continued support in providing technical assistance to the LGUs of Maguindanao in the formulation of their CLUPs.

The MHSD will continue to provide training on the CLUP modules for LGU Maguindanao throughout the last quarter of 2022.
