The Ministry of Human Settlements and Development, the Housing Arm of the BARMM, lent a hand in delivering shelter grade tarpaulins from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to Local Government Units (LGUs) for families severely affected by Tropical Storm Paeng in Mindanao.
It was possible with the coordination initiated by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD-12) that also secured the assistance from the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD); the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-12), and from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The MHSD loaded 1000 tarps on truck of partner agencies on November 05, 2022, which were received to store for safekeeping earlier that week.
Volunteers from each agency, a majority from the MHSD, joined in moving tarps from one truck to another, doing inventory and ensuring each receiver claimed their allotted amount.
Another 2000 tarps were delivered by the IOM to the MSSD’s designated storage at Polloc Port.
A total of 3000 shelter grade tarps were prepared by the IOM, 1400 of which were distributed to Region 12 and the remaining 1600 to the BARMM.
Through their respective Local Government Units, Pigcawayan received 344 tarps, Lebak received 110 and Kalamansig received 60.
The DPHW-12 truck was loaded with 885 tarps for the DHSUD-12 to distribute to Region 12.
The BFP also received one shelter tarp.
The MSSD will lead in the distribution of shelter tarps for the BARMM.
