As October reached its last day this year, the Ministry of Human Settlements and Development, the Housing Arm of the BARMM, concluded its celebration of the National Shelter Month (NSM) reflecting on the past four weeks of meaningful services and challenges building up to them, to enhance future activities at a program held at the MHSD Regional Office, Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City on October 31, 2024.
Bangsamoro Director General Esmael W. Ebrahim recounted some of the activities conducted throughout the month in celebration of the shelter month, delighted that it was the first time since the BARMM’s creation that it was officially recognized and observed by the BARMM government.
A highlighted accomplishment was the MHSD’s participation as one of the main organizers of the Asia-Pacific Shelter and Settlements Forum (APSSF) this 2024, which was successfully conducted and the hosting of the event next year was handed over to the Government of Pakistan by the Ministry and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
“If you want to walk fast, walk alone. If you want to walk far, walk together,” BDG Ebrahim said, quoting a popular phrase reiterated throughout the APSSF 2024.
This October, the MHSD has also awarded housing units, turned over training centers, led groundbreaking ceremonies, distributed emergency shelter kits to families affected by flash flood, provided technical assistance to Local Government Units (LGU) on Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP), conducted training sessions and policy fora, among others.
“As we conclude this month, let us reaffirm our commitment to realizing the dream of providing decent housing for every Bangsamoro. Despite the challenges, we will continue to push forward for services that are fair and just, fulfilling our mission to respond to the housing needs for everyone, regardless of their situation,” said Salem C. Demuna, Director II for Operations and Management, during his keynote reflections.
“This month has highlighted not only the challenges faced by many but also the tremendous efforts of individuals and organizations dedicated to improving lives in the Bangsamoro region. Together, we have fostered awareness and inspired action toward sustainable housing solutions. Let us continue to support one another and work collaboratively to ensure that everyone has a place to call home,” reminded Yasser S. Mama, Chief of the Monitoring and Evaluation Division during his closing remarks.
The MHSDelivers Radio Program also discussed topics regarding the National Shelter Month, hosting guests from the MHSD, DHSUD and beneficiaries of the Ministry’s resettlement housing projects.
