Eight Local Government Units (LGUs) of Lanao del Sur formulated and updated their Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) during the module 2 workshop facilitated by the Environment, Land Use and Urban Development Division (ELUUDD) of the Ministry of Human Settlements and Development, the Housing Arm of the BARMM held at The Farm at Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City on February 27-29, 2024.

Sectoral Studies, Land Use Assessment, and Development Thrusts and Spatial Strategies of the LGUs were covered throughout the activity.

Suharto S. Wahab, EnP, REA, REB, Director II for Technical and Regulatory Services emphasized the importance of the participants’ data, and hoped that the engagement marks the beginning of many more fruitful collaborations.

Dir. Wahab also lauded the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD)-Region 12 for their presentations on SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) Analysis, Urbanization and Settlement Pattern and Hierarchy of Settlements, Setting of Goals and Objectives and Land Use Trends and Planning Standard.

Benjamin D. Alangca, EnP, RF, Provincial Director of the MHSD-Lanao del Sur, shared that the province has now five approved CLUPs, and LGU Balindong has submitted their Draft CLUP to the Provincial Office, aiming for endorsement to the Provincial Land Use Committee (PLUC). Similarly, LGU Pualas has embarked on developing their CLUP from scratch, with commendable support from their local chief executive.

“This demonstrates the commitment of these LGUs to finalize their CLUPs. In this Module 2 workshop, we hope to address the challenges faced by LGUs and overcome them to complete their CLUP. We encourage every concerned official to fully engage with the lectures delivered by the Resource Persons and experts,” PD Alangca said.

“Let’s keep in mind our role as municipal planners, tasked not only with planning for our municipalities but also for future generations. We must contemplate on the repercussions of current events, across all municipalities, on the generations to come,” said Atty. Janice-zah M. Macapantar, EnP, ELUUDD Chief.

She then suggested convening with Technical Working Groups (TWGs) to complete sectoral data, preparing for Module 3, and hoped they would persist with the completed outputs from the workshop to continue moving forward.

Chief Macapantar was hopeful that by the end of the year, another CLUP from LDS will be endorsed to the PLUC.

The team from the DHSUD R-12 was led by Alberto P. Sero Jr., EnP, ELUUDD Chief.

The participants from the LGUs were composed of the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators; Assessors; Information Officers; Environment and Natural Resource Officers; Disaster, Risk Reduction Management Officers; Engineers; Agriculturists; TWGs; Administrative Assistants and staff from Lumbayanague, Poona Bayabao, Tagoloan, Masiu, Ditsaan Ramain, Maguing, Balabagan, and Tugaya.
