The Ministry of Human Settlements and Development, the Housing Arm of the BARMM, distributed emergency shelter kits to 225 families affected by the massive flash flood caused by Super Typhoon Carina in Lanao del Sur (LDS) on September 27-28, 2024.
In partnership with the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the representative from the MHSD manned the distribution of shelter kits, with tools and essential household items to 118 families in the Municipality of Balabagan and 107 to beneficiaries in Kapatagan, whose houses were totally damaged by the flood.
Each kit contained plastic tarpaulin measuring 4×6 meters with a hammer, nails, four 4-meter ropes, steel tape, and also non-food items or essential household items including three blankets, a sleeping mat, a flashlight, 5 sets of dining utensils, and a cooking pot.
Led by Salem C. Demuna, REA, Director II for Operations and Management Services and Benjamin D. Alangca, EnP, RF, Provincial Director of MHSD-LDS, the MHSD, with CRS closely coordinated with the Local Government Units, specifically Hon. Mayor Jover O. Benito of Balabagan and Hon. Mayor Raida B. Maglangit of Kapatagan for their respective municipalities.
Coordination meetings were held since late August, followed by validation and registration of beneficiaries, the list of which were posted to the public a week before the distribution to address related concerns
“The number of disasters and crises continues to increase every decade, with the related impact on lives and livelihoods of those affected. On behalf of our Minister Atty. Hamid Aminoddin D. Barra, we are thankful to the cooperation of the CRS for this initiative to rebuild the lives of the affected Bangsamoro,” PD Alangca said.
