The Ministry of Human Settlements and Development, the Housing Arm of the BARMM, joined the Shelter and Protection Mainstreaming Training of Trainers (TOT) held at the Luxent Hotel, Quezon City on April 1-5, 2024.

Participants were presented with three modules relevant to the activity, each of which is composed of two sessions. After the presentations, participants reviewed the training package after they were divided into groups to be assigned per session. From the third to the fifth day, participants led the sessions as though they were training another group of trainees, on which they received feedback for enhancements.

Hosted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Philippines, through the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), the capability-building activity aimed to contribute towards improved emergency preparedness and response capacity for the Government of the Philippines to effectively address the needs of mobile vulnerable populations, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), through enhanced coordination, information management, and shelter planning and response that meet international standards.

The key objective of the activity was to incorporate the humanitarian protection principles in the operationalization of Shelter Assistance Programs, especially through strengthening approaches to ‘Do No Harm,’ secure meaningful access, ensure accountability, and promote participation.

Representing the MHSD throughout the activity were Johaira T. Rahim and Renee Jay F. Marcos from the Planning and Design Division, and Bhai Nadzmah A. Guialudin from the Housing and Human Settlements Division.
